About the Poet
John Keats (1795-1821) was a British Romantic poet. Although trained to be a surgeon, Keats decided to devote himself wholly to poetry. Keats’ secret, his power to sway and delight the readers, lies primarily in his gift for perceiving the world and living his moods and aspirations in terms of language. The following is an excerpt from his poem ‘Endymion; A Poetic Romance’. The poem is based on a Greek legend, in which Endymion, a beautiful young shepherd and poet who lived on Mount Latmos, had a vision of Cynthia, the Moon Goddess. The enchanted youth resolved to seek her out and so wandered away through the forest and down under the sea.

'A Thing of Beauty' is a poetry adapted from the great poet John Keats' poem named "Endymion — a lyrical romance." A beautiful item, according to the poet, is indeed a source of infinite joy. It has an everlasting beauty that never fades. A lovely object is like a shaded shelter that provides us with a restful night's sleep filled with sweet dreams, excellent health, and relaxation.

Our ties to the physical world are like a floral
wreath. They are snares that attach us to temporal possessions and prohibit us
from achieving ultimate happiness. Hatred, greed, and negativity abound on this
planet. As per the poet, the melancholy and grief brought on by this negativity
melt away when we are surrounded by lovely things.

The poet enumerates some of the lovely things in our environment. "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," as the saying goes. He claims that the natural beauties around us are God's various creations, such as the Sun, which provides us with energy, the Moon's beauty, and the trees, which provide us with shade. The numerous animals that surround us, such as sheep, keep our world interesting. Similarly, Daffodils and other lovely flowers make our world green and vibrant.

During the hot summer months, the rushing streams of freshwater cool and refresh us. The forests, which are brimming with lovely musk rose blooms, are a sight to behold. All of them are beautiful things. Also, lovely and inspiring are the stories of courageous soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect their country. These wonderful things are like a spring of eternity that God has placed upon us. They motivate us to keep going and keep believing in kindness.
