Class 10 Chapter 9 - Bholi Summary in Hindi and English

‘Bholi’ by KA Abbas is a story of a girl who stammers after her brain is damaged. Her real name is Sulekha. Not only is her brain damaged, but she is also suffering from smallpox. This disease has left marks on her face, making her look ugly.

के.ए. अब्बास की 'भोली' एक ऐसी लड़की की कहानी है जो दिमाग खराब होने के बाद हकलाती है। उनका असली नाम सुलेखा है। न केवल उसका दिमाग खराब है, बल्कि वह चेचक से भी पीड़ित है। इस बीमारी ने उसके चेहरे पर निशान छोड़ दिए हैं, जिससे वह बदसूरत दिखने लगी है।

Unfortunately, people do not sympathise with her. However, they mock her and she is called Bholi by them. Despite being the youngest of all the daughters, she is the sickest of them. It so happens that one fine day,  Tehsildar Sahib comes to open a school and asks Bholi's father to send her daughter to school. Although her mother does not want Bholi to be sent to school, she reluctantly agrees.

दुर्भाग्य से, लोग उसके साथ सहानुभूति नहीं रखते हैं। हालाँकि, वे उसका मज़ाक उड़ाते हैं और उसे वे भोली कहते हैं। सभी बेटियों में सबसे छोटी होने के बावजूद वह उनमें सबसे बड़ी हैं। ऐसा होता है कि एक दिन तहसीलदार साहब एक स्कूल खोलने के लिए आते हैं और भोली के पिता से अपनी बेटी को स्कूल भेजने के लिए कहते हैं। हालाँकि उसकी माँ नहीं चाहती कि भोली को स्कूल भेजा जाए, लेकिन वह अनिच्छा से मान जाती है।

When Bholi is told that she will have to start attending classes in school, she is spooked. But when she starts going there, she gets a good feeling about it. Also, she feels glad to see the girls of her age and wants to make them her friends. But whenever someone notices her stammering problem, they only end up laughing. The teacher, however, does not do so when she stammers. Instead of laughing, she motives Bholi to speak more and overcome the problem of stammering. Bholi then sees a ray of hope and does as she is told.

जब भोली से कहा जाता है कि उसे स्कूल में कक्षाओं में जाना होगा, तो वह डर जाती है। लेकिन जब वह वहां जाना शुरू करती हैं तो उसे अच्हा अहसास होता है। साथ ही वह अपनी उम्र की लड़कियों को देखकर खुशी महसूस करती है और उन्हें अपना दोस्त बनाना चाहती है। लेकिन जब भी कोई उनके हकलाने की समस्या को नोटिस करता है, तो वे केवल हंसते हैं। हालाँकि, जब वह हकलाती है तो शिक्षिका ऐसा नहीं करती है। वह हंसने के बजाय भोली को अधिक बोलने और हकलाने की समस्या को दूर करने के लिए प्रेरित करती है। भोली तब आशा की एक किरण देखती है और जैसा उसे बताया जाता है वैसा ही करती है।

After some years, the primary school is not a primary school anymore. It is high school. The village also is now a town. During this time, Bholi receives a marriage proposal from a man who is lame and old. He even has children. Nonetheless, he is well off. When the marriage takes place with a lot of pomp and splendour,  Bholi's sisters only burn in sibling rivalry. But then the groom asks for money as he finds the girl ugly. Bholi says no to the marriage and at the same time starts speaking without a stammer. She did not want to be wedded to a greedy person. She says she will take care of her mother and become a teacher. 

कुछ वर्षों के बाद, प्राथमिक विद्यालय अब प्राथमिक विद्यालय नहीं रहा। यह हाई स्कूल है। गांव भी अब एक कस्बा है। इस दौरान, भोली को एक लंगड़ा और बूढ़ा आदमी से शादी का प्रस्ताव मिलता है। यहां तक कि उसके बच्चे भी हैं। बहरहाल, वह अच्छा पैसे वाला होता है । जब शादी बहुत धूमधाम से होती है, तो भोली की बहनें भाई-बहन की प्रतिद्वंद्विता में ही जलती हैं। लेकिन फिर दूल्हा पैसे मांगता है क्योंकि उसे लड़की बदसूरत लगती है। भोली शादी के लिए मना कर देता है और साथ ही बिना हकलाए बोलना शुरू कर देति है। वह लालची व्यक्ति से शादी नहीं करना चाहती थी। वह कहती है कि वह अपनी मां की देखभाल करेगी और शिक्षिका बनेगी।
