Mijbil the Otter

'Mijbil the Otter' written by Gavin Maxwell is a long-winded tale of an otter that Maxwell gets to pet. It all begins with the author journeying to a place called Basra in Southern Iraq with one of his friends. The author wants to pet an otter as an experiment after having lost his dog, and this very thought, he shares with his friend, who suggests that he will get one for him from Ira as many otters are found along the river Tigris. 

गेविन मैक्सवेल द्वारा लिखित 'मिजबिल द ओटर' एक ऊदबिल की एक लंबी हवा वाली कहानी है जिसे मैक्सवेल पालतू जानवरों के लिए मिलता है। यह सब लेखक के साथ शुरू होता है जो अपने एक दोस्त के साथ दक्षिणी इराक में बसरा नामक स्थान की यात्रा कर रहा है। लेखक अपने कुत्ते को खोने के बाद एक प्रयोग के रूप में एक ऊदबिलाव को पालतू बनाना चाहता है, और यह बहुत ही सोचा, वह अपने दोस्त के साथ साझा करता है, जो सुझाव देता है कि वह इरा से उसके लिए एक प्राप्त करेगा क्योंकि टिग्रिस नदी के किनारे कई ऊदबिलाव पाए जाते हैं।

The author reaches his destination and then waits for several days, awaiting the otter that comes via mail. Also, there are two Arabs who possess a note. The note clearly mentions that the otter is a gift from his friend who had journeyed with him. 

लेखक अपने गंतव्य तक पहुंचता है और फिर कई दिनों तक इंतजार करता है, मेल के माध्यम से आने वाले ऊदबिलाव का इंतजार करता है। इसके अलावा, दो अरब हैं जिनके पास एक नोट है। नोट में स्पष्ट रूप से उल्लेख किया गया है कि ऊदबिलाव उसके दोस्त का एक उपहार है जिसने उसके साथ यात्रा की थी।

The author quickly starts calling the otter Mijbil, shortly Mij. It takes a while for the otter to get used to the surroundings. Also, his real coloured is revealed only after he is washed for nearly a month. 

लेखक जल्दी से ऊदबिल मिजबिल, जल्द ही मिज बुलाना शुरू कर देता है. ऊदबिलाव को आसपास के लिए अभ्यस्त होने में कुछ समय लगता है। साथ ही, उसके असली रंग का खुलासा लगभग एक महीने तक धोने के बाद ही किया जाता है।

The otter is friendly and is fond of water. He even learns to open the tap on his own. All goes well until the time comes to fly to London. The author learns that British airlines do not allow animals, so he books another flight. This time, he can carry it in a box.  Before the flight, he puts Mijbil in a box and heads to eat. On returning, he finds that Mijbil has hurt himself while trying to destroy the box’s inner lining. 

ऊदबिलाव दोस्ताना है और पानी का शौकीन है। वह अपने दम पर नल खोलना भी सीखता है। लंदन जाने का समय आने तक सब कुछ ठीक हो जाता है। लेखक को पता चलता है कि ब्रिटिश एयरलाइंस जानवरों को अनुमति नहीं देती हैं, इसलिए वह एक और उड़ान बुक करता है। इस बार, वह इसे एक बॉक्स में ले जा सकता है।  उड़ान से पहले, वह मिजबिल को एक बॉक्स में रखता है और खाने के लिए सिर करता है। लौटने पर, वह पाता है कि मिजबिल ने बॉक्स के आंतरिक अस्तर को नष्ट करने की कोशिश करते हुए खुद को चोट पहुंचाई है।

He cleans it and then goes to board the aeroplane. He also details the events that transpired to an air hostess, who seems kind.  She asks him to keep the box on his lap. But when Gavin, who by then had developed extreme admiration for the air hostess, opens the box, Mijbil jumps out and vanishes in no time. 

वह इसे साफ करता है और फिर हवाई जहाज पर चढ़ने के लिए जाता है। वह उन घटनाओं का भी विवरण देता है जो एक एयर होस्टेस को हुई थीं, जो दयालु लगती हैं।  वह उसे अपनी गोद में बॉक्स रखने के लिए कहती है। लेकिन जब गेविन, जिसने तब तक एयर होस्टेस के लिए अत्यधिक प्रशंसा विकसित कर ली थी, बॉक्स खोलती है, तो मिजबिल बाहर निकलता है और कुछ ही समय में गायब हो जाता है।

Naturally, this spooks the passengers. A lady tries to get hold of Mijbil even as the author gets himself covered in curry. The air hostess brings the otter back to Gavin. Finally, they arrive in London. 

स्वाभाविक रूप से, यह यात्रियों को डराता है। एक महिला मिजबिल को पकड़ने की कोशिश करती है, भले ही लेखक खुद को करी में कवर करता है। एयर होस्टेस ऊदबिलाव को वापस गेविन में लाती है। अंत में, वे लंदन पहुंचते हैं।

Mij, who is fond of playing with ping-pong balls and marbles, invents a game with the author’s damaged suitcase. When the author takes him for walks,  the Londoners mistake him for a seal or hippo. Some even think he may be a leopard. 

पिंग-पोंग बॉल्स और मार्बल्स के साथ खेलने का शौक रखने वाले मिज, लेखक के क्षतिग्रस्त सूटकेस के साथ एक गेम का आविष्कार करते हैं। जब लेखक उसे चलने के लिए ले जाता है, तो लंदन के लोग उसे सील या हिप्पो के लिए गलती करते हैं। कुछ लोग यह भी सोचते हैं कि वह एक तेंदुआ हो सकता है।

Poem: The Fog

'Fog' is a short poem in which Carl Sandburg, the poet, states that the fog comes as if it were a cat, thus employing a metaphor. He says that it is witness to the harbour and the city as it sits with bent knees. Also, it vanishes in a way a cat disappears moving surreptitiously from one place to another.

'फॉग' एक छोटी सी कविता है जिसमें कार्ल सैंडबर्ग, कवि, कहते हैं कि कोहरा आता है जैसे कि यह एक बिल्ली थी, इस प्रकार एक रूपक को नियोजित किया जाता है। उनका कहना है कि यह बंदरगाह और शहर का गवाह है क्योंकि यह घुटनों के साथ बैठता है। इसके अलावा, यह एक तरह से गायब हो जाता है कि एक बिल्ली एक जगह से दूसरे स्थान पर गुप्त रूप से चलती हुई गायब हो जाती है।
