Class 10 Chapter 11 - The Proposal Summary in Hindi and English

The play is set in Russia. With the rise of the curtain, a man named Lomov is seen entering his neighbour’s house. Lomov is wearing an amazing attire, and his neighbour, Chubukov, gets curious and so eagerly wants to know what the occasion is that demanded his neighbour to wear such a great, neat attire. 

नाटक रूस में सेट किया गया है और एंटोन चेकोव द्वारा लिखा गया है। पर्दा उठने के साथ ही लोमोव नाम का शख्स अपने पड़ोसी के घर में घुसता हुआ दिखाई दे रहा है। लोमोव एक अद्भुत पोशाक पहने हुए है, और उसका पड़ोसी, चुबुकोव, उत्सुक हो जाता है और इतनी उत्सुकता से जानना चाहता है कि वह अवसर क्या है जिसने अपने पड़ोसी को इस तरह के महान, साफ पोशाक पहनने की मांग की।

While Chubukov initially presupposed that Lomov would have come to him only to borrow money without intending to return it, he learns eventually that he had actually come to see his daughter and ask if she would want to get wedded to him. 

जबकि चुबुकोव ने शुरू में अनुमान लगाया था कि लोमोव केवल इसे वापस करने के इरादे के बिना पैसे उधार लेने के लिए उसके पास आया होगा, वह अंततः समझता है कि वह वास्तव में उसके बेटी को देखने के लिए आया था और पूछना चाहता था कि क्या वह उससे शादी करना चाहेगी।

We understand that Lomov, although just thirty-five-years old, is someone who gets upset very easily. And because of this, he has palpitations. Also, he believes that  Natalya, an average-looking girl, would make for a good wife. 

हम समझते हैं कि लोमोव, हालांकि सिर्फ पैंतीस साल का है, वह एक व्यक्ति है जो बहुत आसानी से परेशान हो जाता है। और इस वजह से, उसमे धकधकी रहती है। इसके अलावा, उनका मानना है कि नताल्या, एक साधारण दिखने वाली लड़की, एक अच्छी पत्नी बनेगी।

Quite interestingly, when Natalya and Lomov strike a conversation, the topic of discussion somehow becomes Oxen Meadows, which Natalya thinks belongs to her family. Lomov, however, owns it. They start fighting with each other. In fact, they even go to the extent of shouting and screaming. 

काफी दिलचस्प बात यह है कि जब नताल्या और लोमोव बातचीत करते हैं, तो चर्चा का विषय किसी भी तरह से ऑक्सीन मीडोज बन जाता है, जिसे नताल्या सोचती है कि वह अपने परिवार से संबंधित है। लोमोव, हालांकि, इसके मालिक हैं। वे एक-दूसरे के साथ लड़ना शुरू कर देते हैं। वास्तव में, वे चिखने  और चिल्लाने की हद तक भी जाते हैं।

Lomov starts palpitating and his feet become numb. Sadly, he is thrown out of the house. Only after this happens does Chubukov reveal to Natalya that he was about to discuss a wedding proposal.  She feels bad for her act. 

लोमोव धड़कने लगता है और उसके पैर सुन्न हो जाते हैं। अफसोस की बात है कि उसे घर से निकाल दिया जाता है। ऐसा होने के बाद ही चुबुकोव नताल्या को बताता है कि वह शादी के प्रस्ताव पर चर्चा करने वाला था।  वह अपने अभिनय के लिए बुरा महसूस करता है।

But when Lomov returns, the topic changes. But soon enough, they start quarrelling about whose dog is better than Lobov's Guess, Lobov refuses and stresses that his dog is much better than hers. This time again, Lobov faints. And when he is woken up, both Natalya and he continue arguing. 

लेकिन जब लोमोव लौटता है, तो विषय बदल जाता है। लेकिन जल्द ही, वे इस बारे में झगड़ा करना शुरू कर देते हैं कि किसका कुत्ता लोमोव के अनुमान से बेहतर है, लोमोव मना कर देता है और जोर देता है कि उसका कुत्ता उससे कहीं बेहतर है। इस बार फिर लोमोव बेहोश हो जाता है। और जब वह जाग जाता है, तो नताल्या और वह दोनों बहस जारी रखते हैं।
