The story of ‘A letter to God’ is about Lencho who had extreme faith in God. The story is written by G. L. Fuentes. There was a farmer named Lencho. He had a field in which corn was ripe and dotted with flowers. The field and its crop was the only source of income for his family. He was just expecting a downpour or a shower for his crops. The moment he saw the clouds in the sky, he became very happy.
यह कहानी ‘अ लेटर टू गॉड’ लेन्चो के बारे में है जिसे भगवान में अत्यधिक विश्वास था। इस कहानी को जी. एल. फवेंट्स ने लिखा है। लेन्चो नाम का एक किसान था। उसके पास एक खेत था जिसमें मकई पका हुआ था और फूलों से भरा हुआ था। खेत और उसकी फसल ही उसके परिवार के लिए आय का एकमात्र स्रोत था। वह सिर्फ अपनी फसलों के लिए एक बारिश या बारिश के फुहारे की उम्मीद कर रहा था। जैसा ही उसने आकाश में बादलों को देखा, वह बहुत खुश हो गया।
But his happiness didn’t last long because strong winds started blowing with the clouds and there were enormous hailstones too. It rained for an hour. The field became white. It seemed that salt had covered the field. The corn was completely destroyed due to the rain and storm. Lencho was not able to decide what to do next. As he had extreme faith in God, he decided to ask help from God. Hence, he wrote a letter to God and requested for 100 pesos in his letter.
लेकिन उसकी ख़ुशी ज्यादा देर नहीं टिकी क्यों कि बादलों के साथ तेज हवाएं बहने लगी और ओलावृष्टि भी हुई। एक घंटे तक बारिश होती रही। मैदान सफेद हो गया। ऐसा लग रहा था कि नमक ने खेत को ढक लिया है। बारिश और तूफान के कारण मकई पूरी तरह से नष्ट हो गया था। लेन्चो यह तय नहीं कर पा रहा था कि आगे क्या करना है। चूँकि उसे भगवान में अत्यधिक विश्वास था, इसलिए उसने भगवान से सहायता मांगने का निश्चय किया। इसलिए, उसने भगवान को एक पत्र लिखा और अपने पत्र में 100 पेसो की माँग की।
At one point, when the letter reached the postmaster. As he read that the letter needed to be posted to God, he was unable to stop himself from laughing. The postmaster wished that he could also have such faith in God. However, after reading the letter he found that the farmer or the writer needed money. So, he decided to help to keep the faith of the writer. He asked all his friends and colleagues to contribute money for help. He added some money from his salary too.
एक समय पर, जब पत्र पोस्टमास्टर/डाकपाल के पास पहुंचा| जैसे ही उसने पढ़ा कि पत्र को भगवान को भेजना है, तो वह खुद को हंसने से रोक नहीं पाया। डाकपाल चाहता था कि वह भी परमेश्वर में ऐसा विश्वास रख सके। हालांकि, पत्र पढ़ने के बाद उनको पता चला कि किसान या लेखक को पैसे की जरूरत है। इसलिए, उन्होंने लेखक के विश्वास को बनाए रखने में मदद करने का फैसला किया। उन्होंने अपने सभी दोस्तों और सहयोगियों से मदद के लिए पैसे का योगदान करने को कहा। उन्होंने अपने वेतन से कुछ पैसे भी जोड़े।
The postmaster could collect only 70 pesos, and he replied to Lencho writing a single word ‘God’ as a signature.
डाकपाल केवल 70 पेसोस एकत्र कर पाया, और उसने लेन्चो को हस्ताक्षर के रूप में एक ही शब्द 'भगवान' लिखके जवाब दिया।
The next Sunday Lencho came to the post office to collect his money. He asked for his letter. The postmaster handed over the letter to Lencho, but he didn’t see any surprise on Lencho’s face. Instead, Lencho became angry because there were only 70 pesos instead of 100 pesos in the letter. He thought that this mistake could not be done by God! So, he wrote another letter to God and requested the rest of the money. Also, he informed God in his letter not to send his money through the mail, because the post office employees are a bunch of crooks.
अगले रविवार लेन्चो अपने पैसे इकट्ठा करने के लिए पोस्ट ऑफिस आया। उसने अपना पत्र मांगा। डाकपाल ने लेन्चो को पत्र सौंप दिया, लेकिन वह लेन्चो के चेहरे पर कोई आश्चर्य नहीं देखा। इसके बजाय, लेन्चो नाराज हो गया क्योंकि उस पत्र में 100 पेसोस के बजाय केवल 70 पेसोस ही था। उसने सोचा कि यह गलती भगवान तो नहीं कर सकते है! इसलिए, उसने एक और पत्र लिखा और उसमे भगवान से शेष धनराशी की मांग की। साथ ही उसने अपने पत्र में भगवान को यह भी बताया कि वह मेल/डाक के माध्यम से मेरे पैसे न भेजें, क्योंकि डाकघर के कर्मचारी बदमाशों का एक समूह हैं।
Poem: Dust of Snow
This short poem ‘Dust of Snow’ is written by Robert Frost. It passes a message that a simple moment can also leave a large significance on us. The poet says that once he was not in a good mood. He was passing by a hemlock tree. The hemlock tree is usually associated with poison and can’t be associated with anything positive.
यह छोटी सी कविता ‘डस्ट ऑफ़ स्नो' रॉबर्ट फ्रॉस्ट द्वारा लिखी गई है। यह एक संदेश पारित करता है कि एक साधारण क्षण भी हम पर एक बड़ा महत्व छोड़ सकता है। कवि कहता है कि एक बार वह अच्छे मनोदशा में नहीं था। वह एक हेमलॉक पेड़ के पास से गुजर रहा था। हेमलॉक पेड़ आमतौर पर जहरीला होता है और इससे कुछ भी सकारात्मक नहीं जोड़ा जा सकता है।
However, a crow came and sat on the tree. Due to his sudden motion, the snowflakes from the tree, fell on the poet’s face. Due to the lightweight nature of snowflakes, he thought they were dust particles and compared them with the dust of snow.
फिर भी, एक कौवा आया और उस पेड़ पर बैठ गया। उसकी अचानक बैठने की गति से, पेड़ पे जमा बर्फ का टुकड़ा कवि के चेहरे पर गिरा। बर्फ के टुकड़े की हल्की प्रकृति के कारण, उन्होंने सोचा कि वे धूल के कण थे और उसकी तुलना बर्फ की धूल के साथ की।
The dust of snow instantly made him happy. Poet’s mood changed. He realised that he had just wasted a part of his day being in sorrow. But, now, as the mood had changed, he decided to utilise the rest of the day.
उस बर्फ की धूल ने तुरंत उसे खुश कर दिया। कवि की मनोदशा बदल गया। उसे एहसास हुआ कि उसने अपने दिन का एक हिस्सा दुख में होने के कारण बर्बाद कर दिया था। लेकिन, अब, जैसा कि मनोदशा बदल गया था, उसने बाकी दिन का सही उपयोग करने का फैसला किया।
Poem: Fire and Ice
This short poem is written by Robert Frost. He predicts how the world will end in this poem. Some say that it’ll end in the fire whereas others say that it’ll end in ice. Poet is in favour of fire because it stands for desire. The more you try to satisfy the fire, the more it grows.
इस छोटी सी कविता को रॉबर्ट फ्रॉस्ट ने लिखा है। उन्होंने इस कविता में भविष्यवाणी की है कि दुनिया का अंत कैसे होगा। कुछ का कहना है कि यह आग में समाप्त हो जाएगी जबकि अन्य कहते हैं कि यह बर्फ में समाप्त हो जाएगी। कवि आग के पक्ष में है क्योंकि यह तृष्णा/चाह का प्रतीक है। जितना आप आग को संतुष्ट करने की कोशिश करते हैं, उतना ही अधिक यह जाता है।
Also, the poet thinks that if the world will end twice, ice would also be great and sufficient to end it. He brings a contrast between ‘ice’ and ‘hatred’. The human capability of hatred is enough for inner destruction. Though it is slow but has the same effect on us. Therefore, from the given options- fire and ice, ice would also be great and sufficient to destroy the world.
इसके अलावा, कवि सोचता है कि अगर दुनिया दो बार अंत हो जाएगी, तो बर्फ भी इसे समाप्त करने के लिए बहुत अच्छा और पर्याप्त होगा। वह 'बर्फ' और 'नफरत' के बीच एक अंतर लाता है। आंतरिक विनाश के लिए घृणा की मानवीय क्षमता पर्याप्त है। हालांकि यह धीमा होता है लेकिन हम पर इसका उतना ही प्रभाव पड़ता है। इसलिए, दिए गए विकल्पों - आग और बर्फ, में से बर्फ भी अच्छा और पर्याप्त होगा दुनिया को नष्ट करने के लिए।
