Class 9 Chapter 4 - In the Kingdom of Fools Summary in Hindi and English

‘In the Kingdom of Fools’ is a humorous folktale originally written in Kannada by A K Ramanujan. It talks about a kingdom where both the king and the minister are idiots. They order the people of the kingdom to stay awake at night and go about their duties and go to bed in the morning. Anyone who disobeys gets punished with death. The people follow the orders, for they are afraid of death.

मूर्खों के साम्राज्य में एक विनोदी लोककथा है जो मूल रूप से ए. के. रामानुजन द्वारा कन्नड़ में लिखी गई थी। यह एक ऐसे राज्य के बारे में बात करता है जहां राजा और मंत्री दोनों बेवकूफ हैं। वे राज्य के लोगों को  रात में जाग कर काम करने  और सुबह सोने का आदेश देते है जो कोई भी अवज्ञा करता है, तो  उसे मौत की सजा दी जाती है। लोग आदेशों का पालन करते हैं, क्योंकि वे मृत्यु से डरते हैं।

A guru and his disciple arrive in the kingdom one morning only to discover that even a mouse isn’t stirring. Taken aback, they wander and only in the evening does the kingdom come to life. They discover that everything in the kingdom has the same price - that of one duddu. While the guru feels that it wouldn’t be a great idea for them to stay there, the disciple doesn’t want to leave the place because of everything being available at a cheap price.

एक गुरु और उसका शिष्य एक सुबह राज्य में आते है और देखते है के एक चूहा भी हलचल नहीं कर रहा है। अचंभित होकर वे भटकते हैं और और फिर शाम को राज्य में चहल पहल होने लगती है । शाम को उन्हें पता चलता है कि राज्य में हर चीज की एक ही कीमत है - एक डुड्डू की। जबकि गुरु को लगता है कि इस राज्य में रहना सही नहीं होगा, शिष्य यह जगह नहीं छोड़ना चाहता है क्योंकि सब कुछ एक सस्ती कीमत पर उपलब्ध है।

Despite the guru’s advice that the king or the minister may do anything, the disciple chooses not to listen to the guru’s wisdom and stays on. The guru leaves. The disciple, nonetheless, eats his fill every day and grows fat. But he doesn’t leave the kingdom.

गुरु की सलाह के बावजूद कि राजा या मंत्री कुछ भी कर सकते हैं, शिष्य गुरु के ज्ञान को नहीं सुनने का विकल्प चुनता है और राज्य में ही रहता रहता है। गुरु चले जाते हैं। शिष्य, फिर भी, हर दिन अपना पेट भरता है और मोटा हो जाता है। लेकिन वह राज्य नहीं छोड़ता है।

It so happens that one night a burglar breaks into the house of the rich merchant by making a hole in the wall. The wall soon collapses and the burglar gets killed. When the news reaches the king’s ear through the burglar’s brother, the king summons the merchant and tells him that the responsibility for the burglar’s getting killed lies with him. The merchant, however, says that he is no way involved, and it’s the bricklayer who did not do his job properly.

ऐसा होता है कि एक रात एक चोर दीवार में छेद करके अमीर व्यापारी के घर में घुस जाता है। दीवार जल्द ही ढह जाती है और चोर मारा जाता है। जब यह खबर चोर के भाई के माध्यम से राजा के कान तक पहुंचती है, तो राजा व्यापारी को बुलाता है और उसे बताता है कि चोर के मारे जाने की जिम्मेदारी उस पर है। व्यापारी, हालांकि, कहता है कि वह किसी भी तरह से शामिल नहीं है, और यह  राजगीर है जिसने अपना काम ठीक से नहीं किया था।

So, the bricklayer is summoned next who says that it was because of a dancer going up and down the lane with her jingling anklets while he was working that led to the issue, for he was heavily distracted. The dancer is summoned. She says that a jeweller had asked her to come many times but did not deliver her jewellery on time. The bailiffs approach the goldsmith after, asking him to appear before the king. He points out that a wedding at the rich merchant’s house was the reason he could not work on the dancer’s jewellery.

तो, राजगीर को बुलाया जाता है जो कहता है कि यह सब नर्तकी के कारण था जो अपनी छुन- छुन करती पायल पहने वे सड़क पर इधर उधर घूम रही थी जिसके कारण उसका मन विचलित था । नर्तकी को बुलाया जाता है। वह कहती है कि एक ज्वैलर ने उसे कई बार आने के लिए कहा था लेकिन समय पर उसके  जेवरात नहीं दिए।  अमीन फिर उस  सुनार के पास जाते हैं, उसे राजा के सामने पेश होने के लिए कहते हैं। वह बताते हैं कि अमीर व्यापारी के घर पर एक शादी का कारण था कि वह नर्तकी के आभूषणों पर काम नहीं कर सका।

Everything comes a full circle, and now the king feels that the merchant is at fault. However, he realises that he is too thin to be executed on the stake. So he asks his servants to look for a person who is fat enough to be executed. The servants happen upon the disciple who is, in turn, brought to the kingdom. The disciple requests the king to let him off, but the king doesn’t budge.

सब कुछ एक पूर्ण चक्र आता है, और अब राजा को लगता है कि व्यापारी की गलती है। हालांकि, वह महसूस करता है कि वह दांव पर निष्पादित होने के लिए बहुत पतला है। इसलिए वह अपने नौकरों से एक ऐसे व्यक्ति की तलाश करने के लिए कहता है जो निष्पादित होने के लिए पर्याप्त मोटा है। सेवक उस शिष्य को राज्य में ले आते है राजा क सामने । शिष्य राजा से अनुरोध करता है कि वह उसे छोड़ दे, लेकिन राजा नहीं सुनता है।

The disciple remembers the words of his guru even as the guru sees what is going on through his magical vision. He arrives at the palace and quickly devises a plan. He then asks the king to send him to be executed on the stake and not his disciple. The disciple understands what he is supposed to do, for he then asks the king to be sent first.

शिष्य अपने गुरु के शब्दों को याद करता है ।गुरु देखता है कि उसकी जादुई दृष्टि के माध्यम से क्या हो रहा है। वह महल में आता है और जल्दी से एक योजना तैयार करता है। फिर वह राजा से कहता है कि वह उसे दांव पर मारने के लिए भेजे, न कि उसके शिष्य को। शिष्य समझता है कि उसे क्या करना है, क्योंकि वह तब राजा को पहले भेजे जाने के लिए कहता है।

The flummoxed king asks the guru why it is that they want to be executed. To that, the guru replies that the person who gets executed first will be born as the king of the place and the person executed next will become the minister. Not willing to give up his position even after death, the king and minister let the disciple off along with the guru. They disguise themselves as the guru and disciple and get executed.

भौंचक्का  राजा गुरु से पूछता है कि ऐसा क्यों है कि वे निष्पादित किया जाना चाहते हैं। इस पर, गुरु जवाब देता है कि जो व्यक्ति पहले निष्पादित हो जाता है, वह उस स्थान के राजा के रूप में पैदा होगा और जो व्यक्ति अगला निष्पादित किया जाएगा वह मंत्री बन जाएगा। मरने के बाद भी अपना पद छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं राजा और मंत्री ने गुरु के साथ शिष्य को छोड़ दिया। वे खुद को गुरु और शिष्य के रूप में छिपाते हैं और निष्पादित हो जाते हैं।

The people realise this, and there's a hue and cry all around. The people need a king and a minister. They finally approach the guru and his disciple and ask them to assume charge. Although the guru is initially reluctant, he later agrees and becomes the king. The disciple becomes his minister. And thus ends the story. 

लोगों को यह एहसास है, और चारों ओर एक शोर और रोना है। जनता को एक राजा और एक मंत्री की जरूरत है। वे अंततः गुरु और उनके शिष्य के पास जाते हैं और उन्हें कार्यभार संभालने के लिए कहते हैं। हालांकि गुरु शुरू में अनिच्छुक होता है, वह बाद में सहमत हो जाता है और राजा बन जाता है। शिष्य उसका मंत्री बन जाता है। और इस प्रकार कहानी समाप्त होती है।
