Expert Detectives

‘Expert detectives’ is a story written by Sharada Dwivedi from The Broken Flute. The story revolves around three major characters- ten years old Maya, Nishad and Mr. Nath. Maya and Nishad are siblings and are trying to uncover a mysterious kind of a man named Mr. Nath. Nishad is also called Seven in this story since his name indicates the seventh note of a musical scale.

'एक्सपर्ट डिटेक्टिव्स' द ब्रोकन बांसुरी से शारदा द्विवेदी द्वारा लिखी गई एक कहानी है। यह कहानी तीन प्रमुख पात्रों के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है- दस साल की माया, निषाद और श्री नाथ। माया और निषाद भाई-बहन हैं और श्री नाथ नाम के एक रहस्यमय प्रकार के व्यक्ति को उजागर करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। इस कहानी में निषाद को सात भी कहा जाता है क्योंकि उनका नाम एक संगीत पैमाने के सातवें नोट को इंगित करता है।

The story is in first person narrative and is written from Maya’s point of view. One day, Maya and Nishad were playing and their marbles rolled into Mr. Nath’s place. Nishad managed to Mr. Nath who was thin and his face was scarred. Maya believes that Mr. Nath is a crook who must have stashed bundles of money in his trunk and he got his scars during a shoot-out with police.

कहानी पहले व्यक्ति की कथा में है और माया के दृष्टिकोण से लिखी गई है। एक दिन माया और निषाद खेल रहे थे और उनके संगमरमर श्री नाथ के स्थान पर लुढ़क गए। निषाद श्री नाथ को कामयाब रहे, जो पतले थे और उनका चेहरा दागा हुआ था। माया का मानना है कि श्री नाथ एक बदमाश है जिसने अपनी सूंड में पैसे के बंडल जमा किए होंगे और पुलिस के साथ गोलीबारी के दौरान उन् पर वे निशाँ लग गए होंगे।

But on the other hand, Nishad, being a soft-hearted boy, thinks that Mr. Nath is thin because he must be starving. Nishad’s and Maya’s mother is a doctor and treats Mr. Nath. According to her, those are burnt marks on his face. Maya thinks that the police must have set his house on fire.

लेकिन दूसरी ओर, निषाद, एक नरम दिल वाला लड़का होने के नाते, सोचता है कि श्री नाथ पतले हैं क्योंकि वह भूखे मर रहे होंगे। निषाद और माया की मां एक डॉक्टर हैं और श्री नाथ का इलाज करती हैं। उनके अनुसार, उनके चेहरे पर जलने के निशान हैं। माया सोचती है कि पुलिस ने उसके घर में आग लगा दी होगी।

On Monday, Nishad goes with his mother to her clinic in Girgaum while Maya is at her friend’s house. Nishad went to see Mr. Nath and gave him a bar of chocolate. He was disappointed at Mr. Nath’s thin and sick body. Nishad also gets disheartened because Mr. Nath didn’t let him into his place. He narrated all this to Maya.

सोमवार को, निषाद अपनी मां के साथ गिरगांव में अपने क्लिनिक में जाता है जबकि माया अपने दोस्त के घर पर है। निषाद श्री नाथ को देखने के लिए गया और उन्हें चॉकलेट दी । श्री नाथ के पतले और बीमार शरीर से वह निराश थे। निषाद भी निराश हो जाता है क्योंकि श्री नाथ ने उसे अपनी जगह पर नहीं जाने दिया। उसने यह सब माया को सुनाया।

He also talks about Ramesh who works at a restaurant downstairs. Ramesh gets meals and beverages for Mr. Nath every day. Mr. Nath normally eats two chapattis, dal and vegetables. Every Sunday, a fat, fair man with spectacles comes to meet Mr. Nath and he talks a lot.

वह रमेश के बारे में भी बात करता है जो नीचे एक  भोजनालय में काम करता है। रमेश हर दिन श्री नाथ के लिए भोजन और पेय पदार्थ प्राप्त करता है। श्री नाथ सामान्यतः दो चपाती, दाल और सब्जियां खाते हैं। हर रविवार को, चश्मे वाला  एक मोटा, गोरा आदमी श्री नाथ से मिलने के लिए आता है और वह बहुत बात करता है।

One day, Maya and Nishad were at home because it was raining cats and dogs outside. Maya writes down all facts and pointers they gathered about Mr. Nath and the other man. Maya believes that the other man is also a crook. Since Mr. Nath has been staying at Mr. Shankar’s house for a year and doesn’t have any friends, it makes Maya doubt him even more. Maya thinks that Mr. Nath is hiding his real name too.

एक दिन माया और निषाद घर पर थे क्योंकि बाहर बहुत तेज़ वर्षा हो रही थी। माया श्री नाथ और दूसरे व्यक्ति के बारे में एकत्र किए गए सभी तथ्यों और संकेतों को लिखती है। माया का मानना है कि दूसरा आदमी भी एक बदमाश है। चूंकि श्री नाथ एक साल से श्री शंकर के घर पर रह रहे हैं और उनका कोई दोस्त नहीं है, इसलिए माया को उन पर और भी संदेह होता  है। माया सोचती है कि श्री नाथ अपना असली नाम भी छिपा रहे हैं।

Maya reads out all she wrote on her paper to Nishad who was sitting lying on the bed reading a comic book. Nishad doesn’t agree with his sister Maya. He feels sad for Mr. Nath because he is in poor health and has no one to talk to. Nishad wants to be friends with Mr. Nath to which Maya thinks is an idiotic idea. The story ends with a heated argument between both the siblings due to their different opinions about Mr. Nath.

माया अपने पेपर पर निषाद को वह सब कुछ पढ़ाती है जो क बिस्तर पर लेटे हुए एक कॉमिक पड़  रहा था निषाद अपनी बहन माया से सहमत नहीं है। वह श्री नाथ के लिए दुखी महसूस करता  हैं क्योंकि वह खराब स्वास्थ्य में हैं और उनके पास बात करने के लिए कोई नहीं है। निषाद श्री नाथ के साथ दोस्ती करना चाहता है, जिस पर माया सोचती है कि यह एक मूर्खतापूर्ण विचार है। कहानी श्री नाथ के बारे में उनकी अलग-अलग राय के कारण दोनों भाई-बहनों के बीच हुयी  एक गर्म बहस के साथ समाप्त होती है।

Poem: Mystery of the Talking Fan

The poet has very beautifully described a common object around us. He discusses the movement of a ceiling fan. The poet has personified the ceiling fan giving it a human character.

कवि ने हमारे आस-पास एक सामान्य वस्तु का बहुत ही खूबसूरती से वर्णन किया है। वह एक छत के पंखे के आंदोलन पर चर्चा करता है। कवि ने छत के पंखे को मानव चरित्र देते हुए चित्रित किया है।

The poet says that once there was a ‘talking fan’. He says that the fan used to ‘chatter’ and his talks were electrical. The poet has given the fan a human soul and he is trying to understand what the fan says. However, the poet was unable to understand what the fan was saying or why it made so much noise. After someone oiled the electrical motor of the fan, it stopped to chatter or make any noise. The poet says that all the mystery of what the fan was trying to say ended there as after it’s oiling, it was running as smoothly as water. 

कवि कहता है कि एक बार एक 'बात करने वाला प्रशंसक' था। उनका कहना है कि पंखा 'बकवास' करता था और उनकी बातें इलेक्ट्रिकल थीं। कवि ने प्रशंसक को एक मानव आत्मा दी है और वह यह समझने की कोशिश कर रहा है कि प्रशंसक क्या कहता है। हालांकि, कवि यह समझने में असमर्थ था कि प्रशंसक क्या कह रहा था या उसने इतना शोर क्यों किया। जब किसी ने पंखे को तेल लगा दिया, तो उसका शोर बंद हो गया । कवी कहता है के वे साऋ  कला जो पंखे के कुछ कहने से सम्बंधित थी, बंद हो जाती है जब पंखे को तेल लग जाता है।
