Class 7 Chapter 5 - Golu Grows a Nose Summary in Hindi and English

“Golu grows a nose” is written by Rudyard Kipling. The story is about an elephant. Many years ago, the elephants had no trunk but they had a bulgy nose. There was an elephant named Golu who was full of questions. He asked questions to everyone in the jungle. He asked the ostrich “Why don’t you ever fly like other birds?” He asked the giraffe “What makes your skin so spotty?” He asked the hippopotamus “Why are your eyes always so red?” etc. They had no answers to Golu’s questions.

"गोलू ग्रोव्ज अ नोज " रूडयार्ड किपलिंग द्वारा लिखा गया है। कहानी एक हाथी की है। कई साल पहले, हाथियों के पास कोई सूंड नहीं थी, लेकिन उनके पास एक उभड़ा हुआ नाक था। गोलू नाम का एक हाथी था जो सवालों से भरा हुआ था। उसने जंगल में सभी से सवाल पूछता था। उन्होंने शुतुरमुर्ग से पूछा, "आप कभी भी अन्य पक्षियों की तरह क्यों नहीं उड़ते हैं? उन्होंने जिराफ से पूछा, "क्या आपकी त्वचा को इतना धब्बेदार बनाता है? उन्होंने हिप्पोपोटेमस से पूछा, "आपकी आंखें हमेशा इतनी लाल क्यों होती हैं? गोलू के सवालों का उनके पास कोई जवाब नहीं था।

One day, Golu met a mynah and asked “What does the crocodile have for dinner?” The mynah said, “Go to the banks of the great, grassy Limpopo river and find out.” Golu went home and after having his meal, he went to a great grassy Limpopo river.

एक दिन, गोलू ने एक मैनाह से मुलाकात की और पूछा" मगरमच्छ के पास रात के खाने के लिए क्या है? मैनाह ने कहा, "महान, घास वाली लिम्पोपो नदी के किनारे जाओ और पता लगाओ। गोलू घर गया और खाना खाने के बाद, वह एक महान घास वाली लिम्पोपो नदी के पास  चला गया।

On his way to the river, he met a python and asked him if he had ever seen a crocodile. The python didn’t say anything but quietly followed him. After a few days, when Golu reached the river, he saw a log of wood. It was actually the crocodile. Golu asked the crocodile if he had seen a crocodile. The crocodile told him that it was him. Golu sat on the bank in fear and asked the crocodile what he had for dinner. The crocodile said, “Come here, little one, and I’ll whisper the answer to you.” He said it because he wanted to eat Golu. The moment Golu went near him, he caught Golu by his nose and said that he would be his dinner that day.

नदी के रास्ते में, वह एक अजगर से मिला और उससे पूछा कि क्या उसने कभी मगरमच्छ देखा है। अजगर ने कुछ नहीं कहा लेकिन चुपचाप उसका पीछा किया। कुछ दिनों बाद गोलू नदी के पास पहुंचा तो उसे लकड़ी का एक लट्ठा दिखाई दिया। यह वास्तव में मगरमच्छ था। गोलू ने मगरमच्छ से पूछा कि क्या उसने मगरमच्छ को देखा है? मगरमच्छ ने उसे बताया कि  वह मगरमच्छ है। गोलू डर के मारे किनारे बैठ गया और मगरमच्छ से पूछा कि उसने रात के खाने में क्या किया है। मगरमच्छ ने कहा, "यहाँ आओ, छोटे, और मैं आपको जवाब फुसफुसाऊंगा। उसने ऐसा इसलिए कहा क्योंकि वह गोलू को खाना चाहता था। जैसे ही गोलू उसके पास गया, उसने गोलू को अपनी नाक से पकड़ लिया और कहा कि वह उस दिन उसका खाना होगा।

Now, the python who was following Golu came to the bank and said to Golu, “If you do not pull as hard as you can, the crocodile will drag you into the stream.” Both the crocodile and Golu tried to pull each other. Python coiled himself around Golu’s stomach and pulled together. The nose kept on stretching until it was free, and then became five-feet long. Golu sat there for two days waiting for his nose to cool and shrink. Golu was not happy with his trunk.

अब गोलू के पीछे चल रहा अजगर नदी किनारे आया और गोलू से बोला, "अगर आप जितना हो सके उतना जोर से नहीं खींचते हैं, तो मगरमच्छ आपको धारा में खींच लेगा। मगरमच्छ और गोलू दोनों ने एक दूसरे को खींचने की कोशिश की। पायथन ने गोलू के पेट के चारों ओर खुद को कुंडलित किया और एक साथ खींच लिया। नाक तब तक खिंचती रही जब तक कि यह मुक्त नहीं हो गई, और फिर पांच फीट लंबी हो गई। गोलू दो दिन तक वहीं बैठा रहा और अपनी नाक के ठंडा होने और सिकुड़ने का इंतजार कर रहा था। गोलू अपनी सूंड से खुश नहीं था।

On the second day, a fly came and stung Golu. He lifted his trunk and hit the fly dead. Similarly, he could now put a large quantity of food into his mouth, and throw mud/water on his body using his trunk when it was hot. Python made Golu realise the advantages of his trunk. Golu thanked the python and went to his family.

दूसरे दिन एक मक्खी आई और गोलू को डंक मार दिया। उसने अपनी सूंड उठाई और मक्खी को मृत मार दिया। इसी तरह, वह अब अपने मुंह में बड़ी मात्रा में भोजन डाल सकता था, और गर्म होने पर अपने ट्रंक का उपयोग करके अपने शरीर पर मिट्टी / पानी फेंक सकता था। पायथन ने गोलू को अपने ट्रंक के फायदों का एहसास कराया। गोलू ने अजगर का शुक्रिया अदा किया और अपने परिवार के पास चला गया।
