Class 6 Chapter 2 - The Friendly Mongoose Summary in Hindi and English

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer with his wife and son in a village. The farmer decides to bring a pet for their son. They loved their son very much. The farmer says that his son will need a companion when he grows up. His wife liked the idea too.

एक समय की बात है, एक गांव में अपनी पत्नी और बेटे के साथ एक किसान रहता था। किसान अपने बेटे के लिए एक पालतू जानवर लाने का फैसला करता है। वे अपने बेटे से बहुत प्यार करते थे। किसान का कहना है कि उसके बेटे को बड़े होने पर साथी की जरूरत होगी। उनकी पत्नी को भी यह विचार पसंद आया।

One evening the farmer bought a small mongoose. The farmer’s wife exclaimed it to be a baby mongoose but the farmer was rest assured that it will grow big soon. Then their son and the mongoose will become best friends. With time both the baby mongoose and the child grew. The mongoose had grown fully within a span of five to six months. It was a lovely animal that had two shiny black eyes and a bushy tail. But the farmer’s son was still a baby. He only used to cry and sleep alternately.

एक शाम को किसान ने एक छोटा सा नेवला खरीदा। किसान की पत्नी ने इसे एक बच्चा नेवला होने का दावा किया, लेकिन किसान निश्चिंत था कि यह जल्द ही बड़ा हो जाएगा। फिर उनका बेटा और नेवला सबसे अच्छे दोस्त बन जाएंगे। समय के साथ बच्चा नेवला और बच्चा दोनों बड़े हो गए। पांच से छह महीने के भीतर नेवला पूरी तरह से विकसित हो गया था। यह एक सुंदर जानवर था जिसमें दो चमकदार काली आंखें और एक झाड़ीदार पूंछ थी। लेकिन किसान का बेटा अभी भी एक बच्चा था। वह केवल रोता था और बारी-बारी से सोता था।

One day the farmer wanted to go to the market so he made the baby fall asleep by rocking the cradle. She informed her husband that she is going to the bazaar but was afraid to leave the baby alone with the mongoose and requested him to keep an eye on him. To this, the farmer replied saying that the mongoose was as sweet as their baby. It was a friendly animal.

एक दिन किसान की पत्नी बाजार जाना चाहती थी तो उसने पालना हिलाकर बच्चे को सुला दिया। उसने अपने पति को सूचित किया कि वह बाजार जा रही है, लेकिन बच्चे को नेवले के साथ अकेला छोड़ने से डरती है और उससे उस पर नजर रखने का अनुरोध करती है। इस पर किसान ने जवाब देते हुए कहा कि नेवला उनके बच्चे की तरह ही मीठा था। यह एक दोस्ताना जानवर था।

After a while, the farmer left for the fields to check his crop since he had nothing to do in the house. He also met some of his friends on his way and did not return for some time. When the farmer’s wife returned to the house after completing her shopping she found the mongoose waiting for her at the door. It was a customary greeting to welcome her. The farmer’s wife looked at the mongoose and saw that there was blood on the mongoose’s mouth and screamed. She thought that the mongoose had killed her son. She was filled with anger and called it a wicked animal. She was so hysterical and blind with rage that she dropped the basket full of groceries on top of the mongoose and ran inside.

कुछ देर बाद, किसान अपनी फसल की जांच करने के लिए खेतों के लिए रवाना हो गया क्योंकि उसके पास घर में कुछ करने के लिए नहीं था। रास्ते में वह अपने कुछ दोस्तों से भी मिला और कुछ समय के लिए वापस नहीं आया। जब किसान की पत्नी अपनी खरीदारी पूरी करने के बाद घर लौटी तो उसने देखा कि नेवला दरवाजे पर उसका इंतजार कर रहा है। यह उसके स्वागत के लिए एक प्रथागत अभिवादन था। किसान की पत्नी ने नेवले की तरफ देखा तो देखा कि नेवले के मुंह पर खून लगा है और चीख पड़ी। उसने सोचा कि नेवले ने उसके बेटे को मार डाला है। वह क्रोध से भर गई और इसे एक दुष्ट जानवर कहा। वह क्रोध में इतनी उन्मादी और अंधी थी कि उसने नेवले के सीर पर किराने के सामान से भरी टोकरी को गिरा दिया और अंदर भाग गई।

She found her baby to be safe and sleeping soundly but there was a black snake lying dead on the floor. She realised that the mongoose had killed the snake and protected her baby. She ran back to the mongoose repenting for her hasty actions. She tried to touch the dead mongoose but it was all too late. It lay dead unaware of her sobbing. The farmer’s wife realized her mistake and stared at the dead mongoose for a long time. She then went inside, back to the baby who was awake and crying.

उसने देखा कि उसका बच्चा सुरक्षित है और अच्छी तरह से सो रहा है, लेकिन फर्श पर एक काला सांप मृत पड़ा था। उसने महसूस किया कि नेवले ने सांप को मार डाला था और उसके बच्चे की रक्षा की थी। वह अपने जल्दबाजी के कार्यों के लिए पश्चाताप करते हुए नेवले के पास वापस भाग गई। उसने मृत नेवले को छूने की कोशिश की लेकिन तब बहुत देर हो चुकी थी। यह उसके रोने से अनजान मृत पड़ा था। किसान की पत्नी को अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ और वह लंबे समय तक मृत मोंगूज को देखती रही। फिर वह अंदर चली गई, वापस उस बच्चे के पास गई जो जाग रहा था और रो रहा था।
