Answer: Cricket is quite popular in colonial countries where the British ruled like India. However, it is less popular in sovereign countries where the British didn’t rule, like China and Russia. Hence, cricket has a large viewership in India but not in China and Russia. Also, media and TVs have created a marketplace for cricket in India.  

6.       What do you understand by the game’s (cricket) ‘equipment’?

Answer: The game’s equipment in cricket means the things that are necessary to play the game such as a bat, ball, wicket, gloves, pads, helmets, etc.

7.       How is Test cricket a unique game in many ways?

Answer: Test cricket is unique in different ways like it can be played for five days which is unique in itself. No other games even take half of the time to complete. Also, after five days, it is uncertain who will win. It may end with a draw.

8.       How is cricket different from other team games?

Answer: Cricket is different from other games in many different ways. Other games have fixed dimensions of their field but cricket doesn’t have. Some cricket fields are oval and some are circular. Other games can finish in an hour or half an hour whereas cricket continues for five days (now four days). Also, it has different formats like Test Cricket, One-day International, and T-20 matches. Each one has a different time to get completed.

9.       How have advances in technology affected the game of cricket?

Answer: Cricket is definitely affected by the advancement of technology. Technology has brought cricket into almost every home with the help of televisions. It has increased the popularity of the game. It has made the game safer than before with the help of the latest helmets, gloves, pads, etc. It has made the game fair as well. For example, when an umpire has a doubt about his decision, technology helps him to decide and take fair decisions.

10.     Explain how cricket changed with changing times and yet remained unchanged in some ways.

Answer: Changes happened:

Technology brought the game into the house of most of the people across the world and made it one of the populist games in the world. Equipment like helmets, gloves, pads, etc. is more protective than before. Earlier the bat was made up of one piece of wood, but now it is made up of two different pieces- blade and handle. Umpire’s decisions are fairer than before with the help of motion sensor cameras.

Remain unchanged:

Both bat and ball are handmade. The rules for playing games have not changed yet. It is played in the same way with eleven players.
