A.      Answer the following questions.

1. Why did Taro run in the direction of the stream? (5)

Answer: Taro had never heard the sound of rushing water in that part of the forest. When he heard the rushing stream, he ran in that direction to fill his thirst. 

2. How did Taro’s father show his happiness after drinking saké? (7)


Answer: After drinking the sake, Taro’s father stopped shivering and started dancing in the middle of the floor. This is how he showed his happiness.

3. Why did the waterfall give Taro saké and others water? (12)


Answer: Taro was a thoughtful son and he worked very hard for his parents to give them everything they needed. Sake was the reward for his hard work and sincerity. However, other people were just greedy, so the waterfall gave them only water.

4. Why did the villagers want to drown Taro? (10, 11)


Answer: When villagers went to the waterfall for the sake`, they just got only water instead of sake`. They thought that Taro had cheated them, so they shouted and looked for Taro to drown him into that waterfall.

5. Why did the Emperor reward Taro? (13)


Answer: The emperor was very impressed with Taro’s hard work and his magic waterfall. He thought to pass this message to all children to respect, obey and serve their parents. So he rewarded Taro’s hard work.
