WORKING WITH THE TEXT                                                                        PAGE 11

Answer the following questions. (Refer to that part of the text whose number is given against the question. This applies to the comprehension questions throughout the book.)

1. What did Patrick think his cat was playing with? What was it really? (2)

Answer: When the cat was playing with the doll, he grabbed the doll away. He was surprised when the doll asked for help. It was, in fact, an elf, a very little man.

2. Why did the little man grant Patrick a wish? (2)

Answer: When the little man was in danger, Patrick saved him from the cat. So, he promised to grant one wish to Patrick.

3. What was Patrick’s wish? (3)

Answer: Patrick didn’t like homework. It was boring for him. So, when he saved the little man and he promised to grant his one wish, he wished that all his homework should be done by the little man till the end of the session.

4. In what subjects did the little man need help, to do Patrick’s homework? (5,6)

Answer: The little man didn’t know anything in Maths, English and History. So, he needed Patrick’s help in these subjects to complete the homework.

5. How did Patrick help him? (7)

Answer: Patrick and the elf used to sit together. The little man had no knowledge about English, Maths and History. Patrick used to help him with word-meaning in English, times tables and operations in Maths and reading History books aloud so the elf could write important points/answers in Patrick’s answer book.

6. Who do you think did Patrick’s homework — the little man, or Patrick himself? Give reasons for your answer. (9,10)

Answer: I think Patrick was the one who did his homework. The little man had no knowledge about English, Maths and History. So, Patrick had to guide him with the times tables and different operations in Maths, use a dictionary to help him with word-meaning in English and read history aloud to make notes in his answer book. He worked hard and also stayed up at night. Therefore, all the homework was indirectly done by Patrick.
