1. The course of Loisels' life changed
due to the necklace. Comment.
Answer:
Although
the Loisels were not rich, they could have led a contented life if the necklace
had not been lost. But once the necklace is lost, everything turns pathetic for
the couple, who are forced to odd jobs later in their life. They could have
told Mrs Forestier the truth and perhaps that would have saved them from the
hardships they endured; nonetheless, they ended up borrowing money from usurers
and worked hard for nearly a decade. Thus, their lives became hell.
2. What was the cause of Matilda’s ruin?
How could she have avoided it?
Answer:
Matilda
was not a person who could be satisfied easily. She always had problems and the
more she had, the more she wanted. Her purely materialistic pursuits were thus
the cause of her ruin. She could have avoided it by being content with what she
had.
3. What would have happened to Matilda if
she had confessed to her friend that she had lost her necklace?
Answer:
If
Mathilda had mustered the courage to tell her friend the truth about the
necklace, she would have learnt that it was not a real one and that her friend
will, therefore, not be worried about the loss. She would have avoided a decade
of pain, anguish, and agony.
4. If you were caught in a situation like
this, how would you have dealt with it?
Answer:
If
I were caught in such a situation, I would probably speak the truth and not
hide what had happened.

Answer:
A
person who lies will have to suffer until the lie gets caught, but a brutally
honest person may have to suffer pain at the time but he will have a clean
conscience. Thus, without a shadow of a doubt, honesty is the best policy.
3. We should be content with what life
gives us.
Answer: Money comes and goes. Earning money should never be one’s driving force but one must strive to do one’s duties diligently. There is no point in fretting over what one does not have. It is always better to be happy with what is possessed than worrying over something that cannot be attained.
