Discuss the following topics in groups.
1. Why did the wise old bird say,
“Chandni is the winner”?
Answer:
The old wise bird said that Chandni is the winner because she was brave enough
to fight for her freedom all alone. Success and failure could be a matter of
chance, but to give a good fight is the ultimate characteristic of a winner.
2. “Death in an open field is better than
life in a small hut,” Chandni said to herself. Was it the right decision? Give
reasons for your answer.
Answer:
Chandni had the choice of living a safe life with proper shelter and good food
that Abbu Khan would give her, but she chose her freedom over good food. It was
a correct decision made by Chandni.
3. Freedom is life. Discuss this with
reference to ‘Chandni’ and ‘I Want Something in a Cage’.
Answer:
Freedom is indeed life. One can live a life of luxury and comfort but has to be
a slave of someone, there is no pride in doing so. When one decides to live a
life of freedom, he embraces all the difficulties and gets ready to face the
challenges all by himself. Slavery is a virtual death, it is better to fight
and die than to live as a slave and Chandi decided to do the same thing. I
‘I Want Something in a Cage” expresses the same love
for freedom. It talks about a prisoner who had spent all his life caged and
spent all he had to buy freedom for a pair of caged birds.
