Answer the following questions.
1. The enclosure in which Kari lived had
a thatched roof that lay on thick tree stumps. Examine the illustration of
Kari’s pavilion on page 8 and say why it was built that way.
Answer:
It was built that way because Kari had a habit of bumping against the poles
when he moved. Hence, to make sure that the enclosure would not fall it had a
thatched roof that lay on thick tree stumps.
2. Did Kari enjoy his morning bath in the
river? Give a reason for your answer.
Answer:
Yes, Kari enjoyed his morning bath in the river. He used to lay down on the
sand and let the author rub his back for an hour. After that, he would lie in
the water for a long time and squealed with pleasure.
3. Finding good twigs for Kari took a
long time. Why?
Answer:
It took a long time because the author had to climb different trees to find the
most delicate and tender twigs. If the twigs were distorted, Kari would not
even touch it. Hence, finding good twigs was not an easy task, and it took a
long time.
4. Why did Kari push his friend into the
stream?
Answer:
Kari wanted to save the life of a boy who was lying flat on the bottom of the
river, so he pushed his friend into the stream.
5. Kari was like a baby. What are the
main points of comparison?
Answer:
Kari was like a baby because he had to be taught good lessons like how to sit
down, when to go slow and when to go fast. Also, the other point of comparison
is that he used to steal fruits like a baby from the house.
6. Kari helped himself to all the bananas
in the house without anyone noticing it. How did he do it?
Answer:
With his long trunk, Kari helped himself to all the bananas kept on the dining
table in the house. He put his long trunk through the window like a snake and
disappeared with all the bananas without anyone noticing it.
7. Kari learnt the commands to sit and to
walk. What were the instructions for each command?
Answer:
The instruction for the command to sit was - Dhat, and the instruction for the
command to walk was – Mali.
8. What is “the master call”? Why is it
the most important signal for an elephant to learn?
Answer:
The master call is a strange hissing and a hollowing sound as if a snake and a
tiger are fighting. It is the most important signal for an elephant to learn
because it takes the master out of trouble. Suppose, a master is lost in a
jungle, he just needs to give the master a call to his elephant and the
elephant will keep pulling down the trees in the jungle and make a road for his
master to his home.
