Describe Something Important That You Lost

First, let’s read the conversation attentively.

A: Good evening! How may I help you today?

B: I've lost my glasses somewhere in this store. Can you help me find them?

A: Sure, where exactly do you think you left them?

B: I left them at sunglasses counter about an hour ago.

A: Okay, how did you lose it? Can you recall something?

B: Yes, I was trying on sunglasses, that's why I took them off.

A: Can I have the description of your glasses? How do they look like?

B: Sure, they have quite narrow lenses, I mean small lenses. They are rectangular shaped, not round.

A: Thank you, and what about the frames, are they thick or thin?

B: Oh, they are very thin and their colour is black. I hope someone turns them in because I really need them.

Turn in - give something to someone; submit; return

A: So they are eye-glasses with thin black frames and rectangular lenses, and you saw them last at the sunglasses counter?

B: That's right.

A: All right. Leave me your phone number and I'll call you if someone turns them in.

B: Sure, it is…54321-12345

A: Thank you!

Note:-

You can also tell why the glasses were so important to you and how you are feeling after you lost it.

After reading the conversation, I am sure you’ve understood what all you should include to describe a lost item.

To describe a lost item, you should include -

  • what item have you lost (item/thing)
  • when and where it was lost (place, where exactly)
  • at what time it was lost (time)
  • how you lost it or what you were doing
  • description of the item (shape, size, colour, design, brand, etc.)
  • why it was important for you
  • how you felt after you lost it
  • learning from the lost or mistakes done (optional)
Let’s look at the following examples. You’ll have better understanding of it!

 Example 1

A few months ago I lost my favourite watch when I was going on a weekend trip with my school friends.

To be specific it/watch was a limited edition green-leathered silver watch from an Indian brand called Titan.

I purchased it two years ago. It cost me around $300 which was quite reasonable considering the quality of the product.

This particular watch had the dark green shade of the leather strap which was so rare. I immediately purchased it when I saw it on sale on Amazon.

Unfortunately, I lost it on the trip with my school friends.

We were actually playing Dumb Charades in front of the bone-fire. So we needed time to set every time and my watch was going from one hand to another. After the game we all tried to find it but our efforts didn't pay off.

It took me long time to process this news. I couldn’t eat and sleep well for a month. It was truly a signature accessory for me. It became a part of my personal brand.

Anyway, I guess I learned a great lesson from the loss. I should not bring anything that is too valuable to me on any trip or vacations.

Now Try This

Example 2

It's true, we don't like to lose anything, especially when it is valuable or gifted by someone. However, it happens with us. So today, I'm going to talk about a time when I lost my first mobile phone.

It was gifted by my sister after completing my school study, so I can stay connected with her during my college study. It was Samsung A5. I felt over the moon when I received it.

In college, after first-semester exam, my friends and I planned to go to Goa. We were very excited. We enjoyed the Goa trip.

However, while returning, there were lot of hustle and bustle in the train. We got the seats somehow. After a minute, I received a phone call of my sister. We talked for a while but I don't remember whether I put my phone in my bag or not.

After some time, I realised that my phone was missing. I got worried and felt down in the dumps. I realised with a sinking heart that my phone was gone for ever.

I was very possessive about my phone because it was gifted by my sister. I never let anybody touch my phone. Its camera quality was awesome. I clicked so many pictures and selfies with friends and families. It also had pictures of Goa trip.

I really miss the precious gift and memories saved in those pictures.

Thank you for reading it complete.
