Introduction

'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture, and achievements.

As Mahatma Gandhi, on 12th March 1930, started Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram for awakening self-reliance and self-respect in the country. Similarly, on 12th March 2021, 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' was inaugurated by our PM, Mr. Narendra Modi, marking the revival of our journey of self-reliance and self-respect.

The celebrations started 75 weeks before our 75th anniversary of Independence and will end on 15th August 2023. The idea behind starting it 75 weeks in advance is to instill a sense of pride in the achievements of people after 1947 and the vision of India for the year 2047

Highlights of Dandi March/Padyatra

  • Dandi March, the Dandi in the Navsari district of Gujarat is about 386km from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad.
  • The Padayatra started with 81 marchers and was completed on 5th April 2021 after 25 days.
  • It was the 91st anniversary of the Salt march led by the Father of the Nation – Mahatma Gandhi.

Themes for Freedom Struggle are - stories of unsung heroes, key milestones during the freedom struggle, freedom movements, etc.

Themes for Ideas@75 are - national security, innovation, peace, justice, unity, etc.

Themes for Achievements@75 are - village/smart village, youth/employment, women/empowerment, economy, etc.

Themes for Actions@75 are - Swachha Bharat, Ayushman Bharat, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Skill India, Digital India, etc.

Themes for Resolve@75 are - the vision of India for 2047, sector-specific aspirations, articulation of goals and targets, etc.

Programs under each theme

Freedom Struggle: Programmes under this theme include Birsa Munda Jayanti (Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas), Declaration of Provisional Government of Free India by Netaji, Shaheed Diwas, etc.

Ideas@75: Programmes under this theme include events and initiatives such as Kashi Utsav dedicated to Hindi literary luminaries from the land of Kashi, Post Cards to the Prime Minister wherein more than  75 lakh children are writing their vision of India in 2047, etc.

Achievements@75: Programmes under this theme include initiatives such as Swarnim Vijay Varsh dedicated to the victory of 1971, the launch of Shreshtha Yojana during Mahaparinirvan Diwas, etc.

Actions@75: Programmes under this theme include initiatives such as Gati Shakti - National Master Plan for Multi-modal Connectivity, etc.

Resolve@75: Programmes under this theme include initiatives such as Constitution Day, Good Governance Week, etc. that help bring alive our commitment towards the ‘Planet and People'.

Making Bharat Vishwa Guru

Being one of the ancient civilizations and knowledge centres in the world, India lived the glory of global leadership culturally, socially, intellectually, and politically. 

It has been the "Vishwa Guru" for centuries. It is the land where Vedas & Upanishads were scripted.

Even though India suffered for years under British colonial rule, its spirit to fight through difficult periods never wavered. It rose from its past like a phoenix, to hold a prominent place in the world at present.

Paragraph 7

Launching a website/portal

At the beginning of Amrit Mahotsav, the government launched a website called amritmahotsav.nic.in. The purpose of the website is to talk about the concept of a better India.

There will also be a discussion on developments taking place in India. Every language and every state is included in it. With the help of this portal, we'll be able to project India on a world stage.

Conclusion

This is a great approach to instill a sense of love, respect, pride, and responsibility towards the nation in Indian citizens. People are urged to take an active part in this campaign.

Then only, the Mahotsav will be celebrated as ‘Jan Utsav’ i.e. the festival of the people of India in the spirit of ‘Jan Bhagidaris’ which means we are all partners and stakeholders in the development of our country.
